Geography
The amazing land of Sri Lanka is an island country and lies on the Indian Ocean. It is positioned between the Laccadive Sea and the Bay of Bengal, in the west and in east respectively. The southern coast of India’s border meets with this Island, about 30 km south-east. Sri Lanka is also consisting on several other small Islands, therefore, the country was known as Ceylon up until 1972.
The total area of Sri Lanka Island is around 65,610 km² which is slightly greater than the West Virginia State of United States of America. The population of this Island is approximately 21.2 million according to 2016 census.
The capital city of Sri Lanka is Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte and largest city is Colombo. The official language of Sri Lanka is Sinhala, but there is 74% Tamil people also lived. The second official language is English.
Climate
The climate of Sri Lanka throughout the year is tropical, hot, and humid because it is located just north of the equator. Most of the rainfall occurs due to monsoon winds, but as well by the 2 passageways of the sun at the peak, in the months of April and October. The south-central part of Sri Lanka is higher or famous for highlands, therefore, maximum rainfall occurs in these areas such as south-western and coastal area.
The largest city Colombo also considers as a rainiest region of Sri Lanka, but the north-west coast, see Munnar and Jaffna and the south-east coast, see Hambantota are the driest areas. There are 2 peaks in the precipitation,
• The First, Only Affects the South-West and the Interior Areas, in April and May
• The Second, Due to the Declining Monsoon, Affects the Whole Country, from October to December
